Ethics Committee of Youth and Childhood Studies operates under the auspices of the Finnish Youth Research Network.

Ethics Committee of Youth and Childhood Studies operates under the auspices of the Finnish Youth Research Society. This multidisciplinary board promotes ethical research by addressing special issues in childhood and youth research, promoting research training and participating in science policy discussion about research ethics. The committee offers ethical review to members of the Finnish Youth Research Society and the Finnish Society for Childhood Studies who cannot be provided with such assesment by their respective organisations. Researchers requesting ethical review of research must be members of the Finnish Youth Research Society or the Finnish Society for Childhood Studies. The committee cooperates with the Finnish Society for Childhood Studies, the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK) of the Ministry of Education and Culture and the field of multidisciplinary youth and childhood research.

Duties of the Ethics Committee of Youth and Childhood Studies

  1. The ethical review of non-medical research projects to researchers working for the Finnish Youth Research Society and to members of the Finnish Youth Research Society and the Finnish Society for Childhood Studies who cannot be provided with such assessments by their respective organisations. The ethical review of research is an assessment of the research plan in line with the practices of research ethics, with a focus on any harmful effects the study or its results may have on the research subjects.
  2. Offers expertise in ethical issues related to childhood and youth research in relation to ethical committees in other research organisations, such as higher education institutions and research institutes.
  3. Calls attention to ethical issues related to childhood and youth research, promotes researcher training related to ethical issues and participates in science policy discussion about research ethics. The committee does not have a statutory position. The Finnish Youth Research Society adheres to the ethical principles of research in human sciences determined by the Finnish Advisory Board on Research Integrity (TENK) of the Ministry of Education and Culture.
